The AVMA PLIT names Dr.
Andrew Clark as interim CEO
(CHICAGO, Illinois) Aug. 26, 2016 – Dr.
Andrew Clark, DVM, MBA, has been named interim chief executive officer
of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) PLIT. Dr. Clark will
succeed Dr. Janet Donlin, who has been named executive vice president/chief
executive officer of the AVMA.
Dr. Clark is well known and highly
respected in the veterinary community as an experienced Equine
practitioner. With his MBA and extensive experience in practice
management, he is also well regarded as an expert in understanding the
business needs of veterinarians.
Dr. Clark has served on the
PLIT Board of Trustees for over 12 years and most recently served as the
Chair of the Trust, working closely with Dr. Donlin. During his tenure,
he has led many important initiatives for both veterinary and student
members. To Dr. Kent McClure, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the
PLIT, Dr. Clark is the perfect choice for the short term, ensuring that
the Trust continues to operate smoothly as it prepares its CEO
search.
“We realize the PLIT is a key member benefit, serving over
63,000 veterinarians. We needed someone who can step into the interim
role on day one,” Dr. McClure said. “Dr. Clark knows the Trust
inside and out. His veterinary experience, paired with his MBA,
makes him uniquely qualified to steward the Trust through this
leadership transition and ensure that all of the ongoing
initiatives move forward without disruption. That means the Board can
focus on the task at hand, identifying the best possible candidate to
head up the PLIT for the long term.”
Regarding the CEO
search, Dr. McClure said the Board is taking time to assess
exactly what they need moving forward. The PLIT continues to grow,
evolving to match the changing needs of AVMA members. “We need to
make sure we are conducting a careful, thorough search,” Dr.
McClure added.
Departing CEO Dr. Donlin shares Dr. McClure’s
strong belief in Dr. Clark’s ability to lead the PLIT through the
transition. "I've had the privilege to work side-by-side with Dr.
Clark. There is no one more qualified to do the job,” she said.
“Members need to know they can count on the PLIT programs and know
that they will be there for them today and into the future. Dr.
Clark is uniquely qualified, possessing not only unmatched
abilities, but a true passion for the veterinary profession. A
strong leader, Dr. Clark is fully committed to the Trust,
absolutely member-focused.”
Dr. Clark started his
professional career as an equine practitioner. While running his own
successful veterinary practice, he sustained a serious injury that
effectively ended his career as a practicing veterinarian. Committed
to remaining active in the veterinary profession, Dr. Clark pursued
an MBA. He now runs Virtual CEO, a consulting firm that provides
veterinary businesses with executive level thinking, planning and
strategy.
As a leader in the profession, Dr. Clark
knows firsthand how important the protection is that the PLIT
provides for veterinarians. “I am honored to be the PLIT’s interim
CEO,” Dr. Clark said. “The PLIT-sponsored offerings play a
vital role in the lives of veterinarians at every point in their
careers. It’s all about giving members peace of mind as they go
about their day-to-day work and lives.”
